BMW, Nissan Offering Huge Incentives on EVs in San Diego

BMW AG and Nissan Motor Co. are partnering with a local utility to offer incentives worth as much as $20,000 on their electric vehicles in San Diego, Calif., Bloomberg News reports.

The offers comprise discounts of $10,000 from the carmakers themselves, combined with a federal tax credit worth $7,500 and a state rebate totaling another $2,500. The incentives slash the normal price of a Nissan Leaf electric sedan by about two-thirds and reduce the cost of BMW’s i3 small EV by half.

California aims to put 1.5 million electric vehicles on the road by 2025. Bloomberg notes that the state’s legislature is considering a bill that would hike California’s $2,500 rebate to $10,000 to help achieve the goal.
