2013 U.S. Intercity Bus Report

Developments during 2013 in the U.S. intercity bus industry are summarized in this 17-page report from DePaul University's Chicago-based Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development.

The analysis says a one-way intercity trip by bus in the U.S. averages $36 compared with $64 by train, $136 by car (including maintenance, depreciation and insurance) and $145 by plane.

The expansion of routes was almost nil last year. But ridership has "extraordinary" growth over the past five years and, according to report, will continue to expand in large part because a growing proportion of consumers is reconsidering the benefits of travel by coach.
