Apple Poaches Another Tesla Exec

Apple Inc. has hired designer Andrew Kim, a senior design manager at Tesla Inc. for the last two years.

At Tesla, Kim contributed to design of several of the carmaker’s electric vehicles. This includes future projects such as the all-new Roadster supercar and Semi heavy-duty truck.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Kim spent three years at Microsoft Corp. prior to joining Tesla. He worked there on the user interface for the company’s Windows 10 operating platform, Xbox gaming system and HoloLens augmented reality technology.

Apple has hired several former Tesla executives this year. Most notably, Doug Field was rehired by the software giant in August after spending five years as Tesla’s chief engineer. This summer Apple also landed Jaime Waydo, who had been a senior engineer at Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo unit.

Apple launched its secretive Titan program in 2014 to develop technologies for autonomous cars. The latest moves have reignited speculation that Apple is developing its own self-driving car as part of the program.
