Goodyear to Test Tires on Self-Driving Vehicles

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has become an affiliate member of the University of Michigan’s Mcity research campus, where the company plans to test tires on autonomous and electric vehicles.

Goodyear will use the facility to evaluate next-generation tire sensors that can adapt to changing driving conditions and provide information to autonomous vehicles.

The company notes it is the only tiremaker among the more than 60 organizations signed up to use Mcity’s proving grounds. Located in Ann Arbor, Mich., the 32-acre site includes a driving course with intersections and real-life driving simulations, a variety of road surfaces and a four-lane highway.
