Lincoln to Test Month-to-Month Subscriptions in 2018

Next year Ford Motor Co.’s Lincoln luxury brand will test a plan that gives U.S. customers the option of “subscribing” to access an array of vehicles month by month, Automotive News reports.

Under the unnamed program, customers will pay a flat monthly fee for a vehicle, insurance, maintenance and roadside assistance. They will be able to switch to a different model each month and drop the plan entirely at any time. The price hasn’t been announced.

Sources tell AN the program will probably begin in a few markets in California. Cadillac and Porsche, along with an array of lenders, dealers and startups, are already testing similar subscription schemes in the U.S.

Lincoln also is testing a personal driver plan in Miami, San Diego and Dallas. The service enables customers to arrange a personal driver who chauffeurs them around in their own car or uses the vehicle to run errands on their behalf.
