Lucid Motors Inc. says it expects to produce 15,000 all-electric Air sedans in 2021 at the factory it is constructing in Casa Grande, Ariz.

The startup touts quality as its top priority for its $100,000-plus car. Lucid hopes to begin pilot production by the end of 2020 with a $240 million, 82,000 sq-ft plant.
The company plans to eventually expand its facility in two more phases to 21 million sq ft and increase production capacity to 130,000 EVs annually.
The Air promises a top speed in excess of 200 mph and a range of at least 400 miles. The 12-year-old company, which was founded by former Tesla Inc. executives, says its cars will use a variant of the electric powertrain that propelled all 24 race cars in this year’s Formula E racing series.
