Nissan/Infiniti to Launch 6 EVs by 2022

Nissan Motor Co. and its Infiniti luxury arm plan to introduce six fully electric vehicles through 2022.

The plan calls for four Nissan-badged EVs and two Infiniti models, Toshihiro Hirai, Nissan's corporate vice president for powertrain and EV engineering, tells Automotive News. The Nissan/Infiniti vehicles will account for half of the 12 EVs the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance plans to roll out over the next five years.

The new Nissan models are expected to include a Leaf-based electric crossover vehicle, which was previewed by the IMx concept vehicle at last autumn’s Tokyo auto show. A successor to the e-NV200 electric van also is said to be in the works.

One of the Infiniti EVs reportedly will be based on the second-generation Leaf launched last year. The other could be a sedan based on last year’s Q Inspiration concept vehicle.

Last month Infiniti announced that its new models all will have either a hybrid or full-electric powertrain by 2021.
