Renault Could Trim Products, Markets

Interim Renault CEO Clotilde Delbos says the carmaker is reviewing midterm goals that could include trimming its product lineup and exiting some markets, Reuters reports.

She says the review should be completed within a few months. “Can we keep up the same strategy? I don’t think so,” she says. “The market is changing; we have to adapt.”

Renault, like most other major carmakers, is attempting to streamline as global sales soften and the cost of new technologies rises. Delbos reiterates Renault’s conviction that its 20-year-old alliance with Nissan Motor Co. also can be strengthened and made far more efficient.

Media reports say Delbos has applied to become Renault’s fulltime CEO. The company, brushing off rampant media speculation about possible frontrunners, insists it is in no rush to make a decision.

Delbos, the company’s chief financial officer, was named interim CEO in mid-October after Thierry Bollore was ousted from the job.
