Volvo Trucks Invests in Wireless Charging Developer

Truckmaker AB Volvo has made an unspecified investment in Momentum Dynamics Inc., a Malvern, Pa.-based developer of wireless charging systems for electric vehicles.

Momentum Dynamics says its inductive bi-directional charger can provide as much as 300 kW of power for trucks, buses, construction equipment, industrial and marine applications. The company is conducting pilot tests in Europe and North America with fleets and vehicle manufacturers of cars, buses, trucks and trains.

Last year, Momentum Dynamics installed a 200-kW system in Wentachee, Wash., in partnership with China’s BYD. The installation can fully replenish the battery pack of a BYD electric bus in five minutes, according to the partners.
